Bear & Wildlife Viewing
King Salmon Lodge is a short scenic 15-minute floatplane flight to Katmai National Park where you can observe Alaskan Coastal Brown Bears and visit the fabulous Valley of 10,000 Smokes. Acre for acre, nothing compares to the majestic beauty of Katmai National Park.
Landing at Brooks Camp you can view brown bears in their natural habitat, including the world-renowned Brooks Falls. Watch as bears stand atop the falls and grab jumping salmon right out of the air. For both the wildlife photographer and the outdoor enthusiast, it’s a dream come true.
Visit Katmai National Park
King Salmon Lodge is fortunate to border Katmai National Park and Preserve. KSL is the preferred choice for deluxe overnight accommodations for fly-out trips into Katmai National Park. Stay and dine with us at the lodge and enjoy short scenic day trips by floatplane into Katmai National Park.
Katmai was originally established as a National Monument in 1918 to protect the volcanically devastated region surrounding Mount Katmai and the Valley of 10,000 Smokes. Today the Valley offers a chance to explore a landscape created by the largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century. The beauty, scale, wildness and mystery of the Valley make it one of the best places in the world to study the power of volcanic eruptions. The Valley also protects 9,000 years of human history and is essential for the thriving eco-system of red salmon and brown bears.

Private Jets
Commercial and private pilots alike agree that the King Salmon Airport (AKN) is easily accessible. With a control tower, all-weather precision instrument approach, full category 1 capabilities (CAT I), no terrain and a 9,000-foot runway, pilots say that AKN is the most reliable airport around. In fact, if a pilot cannot land elsewhere due to weather or other factors, they will use AKN as a “primary alternate” for the region of Southwest Alaska.
King Salmon Airport can accommodate jet-driven aircraft of any size. Free and secure aircraft parking, FOB services, and shuttle transportation from wing-side to river-side make travel to this destination convenient for corporate or conference attendees.

These salmon, also called coho, are famous for their strength, speed, and willingness to put up a fight. From August through September, our guests experience fast-paced action as silvers gather in large schools along the Naknek River. The excitement of watching a silver break the surface and run downriver is something every angler should experience. Sockeye Salmon Fishing Alaska
The annual return of sockeye salmon makes sockeye salmon fishing in Alaska one of the most incredible events you can experience. Millions of fish surge into Bristol Bay each summer, filling the rivers with energy and creating one of the most productive fisheries in the world. King Salmon Lodge is perfectly positioned to give you direct access to this remarkable run. Anglers spend long, rewarding days on the water catching hard-fighting sockeye and then return to the lodge where their catch is expertly prepared for travel home. The season brings not only outstanding fishing but also breathtaking views of red salmon streaming upriver against a backdrop of pure Alaskan wilderness. It is a tradition that keeps our guests returning year after year.
