FAQs About King Salmon Lodge
Explore all you need to know with our FAQs about King Salmon Lodge, where adventure, safety, and incredible wildlife experiences unite. Prepare for an exciting, responsible journey into the stunning wilderness of Alaska, creating unforgettable memories amidst nature’s most breathtaking scenery!
The best time to visit Alaska is during the summer months, from June through August. This is when you get long daylight hours, mild temperatures, and the most reliable conditions for fishing, wildlife viewing, and outdoor adventures. For anglers heading to King Salmon Lodge, June and July are especially popular for king salmon, while July and August bring incredible sockeye, trout, and other species. Summer gives you the perfect mix of comfortable weather and peak fishing opportunities.
We offer a variety of premium Alaskan wilderness experiences, including fully guided fishing trips on the Naknek River and fly-outs to nearby rivers, lakes, and streams. You can fish for king, sockeye, and silver salmon, trophy rainbow trout, arctic char, grayling, and northern pike. Guests also enjoy wildlife and bear-viewing tours near Katmai National Park and Preserve, as well as comfortable lodging, gourmet dining, and spaces for retreats or private groups.
The lodge is open from May 15 to October 31, with peak fishing season running from June 21 through August 31. Trout season begins June 8, king salmon runs from June 24 to July 31, and sockeye season runs from June 25 to July 15. Late summer brings silver salmon and freshwater species in August and early September, followed by rainbow fly-fishing from September through October.
Guests often see brown bears, beluga whales, moose, lynx, otters, foxes, bald eagles, arctic hares, and a wide range of migratory birds—many visible right from the lodge grounds or along nearby rivers.
Room rates vary depending on season and room type. Breakfast is included for all guests, and lunch or dinner can be added for an additional nightly fee. Children under 14 receive discounted rates, and a 10 percent bed tax applies to all rooms.
Getting to King Salmon is simple. You fly from Anchorage directly into King Salmon Airport (AKN). The flight takes about an hour. Once you land, the King Salmon Lodge team will pick you up and bring you straight to the property. There are no roads connecting King Salmon to the rest of Alaska, so flying is the only way in and out. Most guests book a round trip from Anchorage with Alaska Airlines or Ravn.

Because the Alaskan season is short and demand is high, we recommend booking as early as possible to secure preferred dates, rooms, and guides.
Fish packaging and freezing for transport are provided for all guided trips. The lodge ensures your catch is properly processed and ready for travel.
Weather in Alaska can change quickly. If conditions affect your plans, the lodge will work with you to reschedule activities and ensure you still enjoy a memorable experience.
The lodge provides fishing gear, boats, guides, and fish packaging for guided trips. Guests should bring weather-appropriate layers, rain gear, and sturdy boots. A valid Alaska fishing license is required.

Exceptional service, cabins are nice, food that makes you want 2 plates of dinner and friendly staff!Posted on Michael HudsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A little disorganized, meals are at their restaurant where a meal is served, no choices, no schedule for what is served. Drinks while staying at the lodge are not easy to get. No in room fridge for your own sodas. Dinner the food was excellent. Service for dining needs improvement. Guides were knowledgeable about sockeye but not Kings. They forgot one of my fish boxes going to the airport. Recommend going to Brooks Falls, expensive but worth it. Need to improve on service. They really need hiking or side trips.Posted on Dwight HarmonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The service was amazing. Everyone was friendly with a positive attitude. Steak night is amazing. Cooked perfectly with amazing flavor. Breakfast is just as good, and the employees do everything possible to make your stay perfect. There's a lot of improvements going on. Wifi in the cabins can be tricky to get right now. They don't have cheap towels. They are the good ones you would use at home. Bed was comfortable. Nice quiet area on the river. Thanks to everyone here for a great stay.Posted on Michael GoodeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
