Bear & Wildlife Viewing
King Salmon Lodge is a short scenic 15-minute floatplane flight to Katmai National Park where you can observe Alaskan Coastal Brown Bears and visit the fabulous Valley of 10,000 Smokes. Acre for acre, nothing compares to the majestic beauty of Katmai National Park.
Landing at Brooks Camp you can view brown bears in their natural habitat, including the world-renowned Brooks Falls. Watch as bears stand atop the falls and grab jumping salmon right out of the air. For both the wildlife photographer and the outdoor enthusiast, it’s a dream come true.
Visit Katmai National Park
King Salmon Lodge is fortunate to border Katmai National Park and Preserve. KSL is the preferred choice for deluxe overnight accommodations for fly-out trips into Katmai National Park. Stay and dine with us at the lodge and enjoy short scenic day trips by floatplane into Katmai National Park.
Katmai was originally established as a National Monument in 1918 to protect the volcanically devastated region surrounding Mount Katmai and the Valley of 10,000 Smokes. Today the Valley offers a chance to explore a landscape created by the largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century. The beauty, scale, wildness and mystery of the Valley make it one of the best places in the world to study the power of volcanic eruptions. The Valley also protects 9,000 years of human history and is essential for the thriving eco-system of red salmon and brown bears.
“Thank you for being the best hosts for the Alaska Superintendent conference” – TripAdvisor Review by Heather
The King Salmon Lodge is your destination venue for conferences, corporate meetings, training seminars, retreats, private groups and special events. The lodge comfortably accommodates groups of between 26 and 45 guests depending on sleeping arrangements. There are 19 rooms in the main lodge and 10 free-standing cabins.
Meeting space accommodates 60 attendees and we offer a variety of in-house services including high-speed DSL, Wi-Fi, projectors, lectern, automated video screens, conference phone system, audio system, wired and wireless microphones. An upstairs VIP lounge for private and social gatherings is available for up to 25 guests with high-end hosted services. The VIP lounge also includes a projector and automated video screen. Food, specialty wines, beer and cocktails are available for your event.
Commercial and private pilots alike agree that the King Salmon Airport (AKN) is easily accessible. With a control tower, all-weather precision instrument approach, full category 1 capabilities (CAT I), no terrain and a 9,000-foot runway, pilots say that AKN is the most reliable airport around. In fact, if a pilot cannot land elsewhere due to weather or other factors, they will use AKN as a “primary alternate” for the region of Southwest Alaska.
King Salmon Airport can accommodate jet-driven aircraft of any size. Free and secure aircraft parking, FOB services, and shuttle transportation from wing-side to river-side make travel to this destination convenient for corporate or conference attendees.

Best family trip ever… the bears, the fishing, the wilderness!
If you are looking for a first-class Alaska fishing experience and being treated like you are at a 5-star resort but at a fair price – with great dining – then look no further. KSL makes us feel at home and always designs a custom fishing experience that exceeds our expectations. Last year we had a general plan but they suggested changes as they got to know us and they were spot-on! Matt and his crew are simply the best!
