Bear Safety Comes First
The bears are wild, the environment is dynamic, and safety is always our highest priority. On your first visit to Brooks Camp, your guide will accompany you through the National Park Service’s required “bear school” orientation before starting on the trails at Katmai National Park.
We take these rules seriously. They exist not only to protect our guests, but also to protect the bears and preserve the extraordinary environment that makes Katmai so special.
Our guides will help you understand appropriate behavior around bears, maintain required distances and follow all National Park Service regulations throughout your visit. Wildlife encounters can never be guaranteed, and the bears ultimately determine where they go and how close an encounter may be. Our goal is to put you in the best possible position for an unforgettable experience while always respecting the bears, the park and the rules that protect them.
For photographers, our guides can also assist with camera settings, composition, positioning and field techniques, helping everyone from enthusiastic beginners to experienced photographers come home with images—and memories—worthy of the
experience.
