You don’t need to be an expert angler to fish Bristol Bay. Our guides are patient, approachable, and comfortable working with everyone from complete beginners to seasoned fishermen.
Depending on the location, season, and target species, our guides can accommodate a variety of fishing styles, including traditional fly fishing, spey techniques, trolling, and conventional spinning gear. If you’ve always wanted to learn a new technique, our guides are happy to spend the time teaching you along the way.
For experienced anglers, Bristol Bay offers opportunities to pursue some truly remarkable fish in spectacular surroundings. Come fish with us for all varieties of salmon, rainbow trout, arctic char, northern pike, and grayling!
Understanding Alaska's Fishing Seasons
One of the most important things to understand when planning a fishing trip to Bristol Bay is seasonality. Alaska’s fish runs are natural events, and their timing can vary from year to year based on water conditions, weather, temperature, and countless other environmental factors.
As a general guideline:
- Sockeye Salmon (Red): Mid-June through mid-July
- Chinook Salmon (King): Typically available during June and July, with the season ending July 31
- Coho Salmon (Silver): Generally begin arriving in early to mid-August and taper off in early September
These dates should be considered seasonal guidelines rather than guarantees. Some years the fish arrive early, some years they arrive late, and conditions can change quickly. While our guides use their experience and local knowledge to put guests in the best possible position for a successful day, no lodge or guide can guarantee that a particular species will be running, or biting, on a specific date. That’s part of fishing wild Alaska.

Taking Your Catch Home
For many guests, one of the best parts of fishing in Bristol Bay is being able to bring a little piece of Alaska home with them. King Salmon Lodge offers in-house fish processing and freezing for eligible fish harvested during your stay.
Our team can process your catch, prepare it for travel, and keep it frozen at the lodge until your departure. This makes it easy to enjoy your Bristol Bay catch at home and share the experience with family and friends long after your trip is over.
Please keep in mind that King Salmon Lodge does not offer direct fish shipping services from the property. All processed fish must leave the lodge with you when you depart King Salmon and should be planned as checked luggage on your departing flight.
We recommend considering your expected catch when planning your baggage allowance and checking with your airline in advance regarding current policies, weight limits, and fees for traveling with frozen fish. Our lodge team can help answer questions about the processing and packing process while you’re here.
As with all fishing in Alaska, harvest opportunities, possession limits, and regulations vary by species, location, and season. Our guides follow current regulations and will help ensure your fishing experience and retained catch remain within applicable limits.
